The sun rose to a pristine mild autumn morning as preparations begun for the Newport Nasties much anticipated first rugby game of the 2009 season. Dew glistened on the carefully prepared turf of the Avalon Bulldogs Stadium where 80,000 spectators were expected to cheer on the blue and whites. At 11am the nervous wait for the shrill of the referee’s whistle silenced the crowd as they watched in awe of their local team of rugby champions and Stavros. “…..as I have been quoted before, I am second-to-none when it comes to my rugby prowess…..” Stavros was heard to say before dropping the ball for the third time in a row and being replaced after 2 minutes of play.
