The newer and prettier BOYO returned to training on Thursday and promptly won the Golden Boyo.
Thursday 7th May Yet another well organised training session by Mark T had the boys running through various tackling drills. Concentrating on getting in position with some wide stances and front feet planted in close being the go. With arms open wide and a low aim to ensure the arms wrap around the thighs. Anticipation of the first game was evident as the ‘light’ tackles got harder and harder, some evenly paired combinations had Skip taking on Thomas the Tank, Trooper taking on Silverback and Ray taking on Cowboy! The second phase of the evenings training had the backs and forwards split. As the forwards went to one side to hold each other (they say practising line outs) and then give each other lots of hugs and cuddles (something to do with scrums apparently!); the backs were more focused (on their tans and hairstyles), and led by the master himself. Boyo ran the backs though some passing drills, drawing players and creating space plus lots of other skilful manoeuvres that should result in some exhilirating play on Sunday. For the final phase of training Mark T brought the team together and various stages of play were run through. The forwards coordinated well in the lineout’s, looked solid in the scrums and there was encouraging support play through the breakdowns. The back line took a better shape as the sessions developed, the experienced half back Scottie soon had Flynnie taking up position where he wanted him and with Ray at full back the side looked great. During the post training briefing session (beers and snags) Cowboy handed out details of this years Nasties tour, a cultural excursion to Cairns. The effort that Cowboy has already put in was more than evident as he read through the packed itinerary. No stone has been left unturned in the search for appropriate “activities” for the boys. The rumours that some ‘wifey’s’ might try to go on the tour were quickly extinguished by the lads. The golden boyo was warmly presented to Boyo himself, good effort Boyo on drinking the warm - - - -.
