The headline says it all as this phrase was the catchcry of the night as the Aussie side once again gave the Rest Of The World team a sporting lesson in the Nasties Soccer World Cup. An emphatic and comfortable 5-3 win to the Green & Gold's had the capacity crowd cheering last night at the Doggy Dome. ".....that was even better than last year's win." said an exhausted Pesty.
The match began evenly with both sides locked at 1-1 after 10 minutes. It was soon broken by the Aussie's with some deft footwork from both Soupy and TTE to have Gaven Sheehan send one flying past Rooster in goals for a 2-1 lead. This was then extended when The Axe managed to send a shot through at least a dozen pairs of legs giving the Aussie's and almost unassailable 3-1 advantage.
However, the ROW were not to be outdone and came back valiantly through the help of Coach and Chef to draw level once again at 3-3. Into extra time and it was all the Australian team who dominated. Firstly another goal by The Axe followed closely by some brilliant footwork from Peatsy to close out the match.
A great game played in the right spirit. The Rest Of The World side can take some pride out of yet another loss as they fought hard and had it not been for a couple of missed attempts from Pup and Deaks, the result may have been different. Tink tried courageously all night but, quite simply, the ROW were beaten by a far superior and better prepared team.
Some commendable efforts for both sides including Sin-Bin (ROW) both in goals and in defence and Pete Johnno (Aussie's) was everywhere with Gunner to help defend the home sides goal. The newly unveiled "Hoff Cup" for the match winners was presented on behalf of the Aussie's to their best player, Goalkeeper Matty Read who was outstanding in his focus throughout the match.
Only 9 days until the Eastwood Gala Day so training next week at Hichcock Park for an extended team run.
