NASTIES THROUGH TO SEMI'S

In their first year of competition, the Newport Nasties have made it through to the Avalon Bulldogs Touch Football Semi-Finals after a sterling performance at the Doggy Dome last night. Playing against the top of the table Josh Holmes-led Pirate's side in front of a capacity crowd, Gavin Sheehan inspired from the front with some superb passing and direction being well backed-up by Scotty Dalton and Sean Panambalna who made some incisive runs through the oppositions defence. Michael King and brother Jamie were both kept busy in the middle of the park alongside James Hoskins with some diving tackles to save certain tries.

SIN-BIN KEEPS UNBEATEN TAG

The Newport Nasties have begun 2011 in style with a victory at the Avalon Bulldogs Touch Football Competition at the Doggy Dome last night. A hot and humid evening were presented to the players as they strode onto the hallowed turf determined to start the new year with a win. Joined by former St George star, Bernie Kelly, some scintillating running around the oval had the opposition run ragged. Fantatstic tries were scored by Bernie's son, Will who was just edged out of Man-Of-The-Match honours by future Nasties player Finlay Law who completely outshone his Dad Adam out on the field. "That's the last time he plays....." The Axe commented after the game. The win kept intact Sin-Bin's perfect record at the tournament that should ensure the Nasties a finals berth at the business end of the competition. The Nasties play The Animals on Field 2 at 7.30pm next Wednesday, we hope to see a few more players at the ground.

Celebrations At The BOB

The Newport Nasties Rugby players have closed out their World Cup year with celebrations and barefoot bowls at the Avalon Bowling Club last night. The night saw Darren Mann arrive at the club early to ensure all was in readiness including the drink as around 50 Nasties and their supporters reflected on another successful year. "It was a big year with the World Cup but a very successful one....." Skip McGrath adressed the crowd.  Much banter echoed on and around the bowling greens while Chef and Soupy were cooking up a storm on the BBQ for the hungry horde of elite athletes. A delicacy of Prawns, Crabs and Steaks were served to the players who consumed it all in locust-like fashion. "That hit the spot....." Hall Of Fame player, Darren Flynn remarked. "Any more....." Cowboy was heard to ask the cooks. A 'Row-Boat' Race followed with the Backs narrowly defeating the Fowards for the coveted prize. Much laughter followed before the Nasties finally departed in the early hours of the morning.

The Newport Nasties would like to thank all those involved with the Glamour Rugby Outfit thoughout the year especially the Supporters and the Sponsors. We now look forward to the 2011 Season. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
